Shelf Candy Saturday (1)

Shelf Candy Saturday is an awesome weekly meme hosted by Five Alarm Book Reviews where each Saturday bloggers defy the saying "never judge a book by its cover" and showcase one that really catches their eye. Covers play a huge role in the books I choose so it's great to have the opportunity to showcase the pretties :)

My shelf candy for this week is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

The circus arrives without warning.

No announcements precede it...

It is simply there, when yesterday it was not.

I love the simplicity of the cover, using just four colours. The majority is black and white, but there is a flash of red and the stars in the background are shiny silver.

It's very pretty but it isn't just the main cover that caught my eye and won it a starring role in my first ever Shelf Candy Saturday. As you can see from the pictures below, the inside cover pages are gorgeous and the edges of the pages are black. There is also a built in red bookmark which is brilliant for me as I'm terrible for losing bookmarks.

Also when you take the slipcover off the book, there is a gorgeous design on the cover:

The Night Circus has different covers for the UK and US markets. Below the UK cover is on the left and the US is on the right. I personally prefer the UK cover because it fits best with the blurb. Also the US cover looks suspiciously clown-like.

So what's your shelf candy this week?

  1. I love these covers! I have been wanting to get my hands on a copy, but I have been so buried in books that I can't justify going out and getting it just now. I agree with you, I prefer the UK cover too, now that I've seen it. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I love the cover for the copy that I have. Paper art, I think. The other cover is fabulous. Isn't it terrific when they add design under the jacket and inside. Great pick.

  6. I've loved the covers for Midnight Circus from the moment I first saw them! And it's so incredibly difficult to choose which one to pick; after a lot of pondering and flailing about I decided to order the UK version. But man, that was difficult. x) Thanks for sharing!

  11. Hi, Claire! Thanks for commenting on my Shelf Candy post today! Since you referred me to this, your very first Shelf Candy post, I came over to take a look. How interesting that the UK edition also carries the design elements over to the rest of the book!

You know, I wasn't aware that the UK hardback had the same cover as the paperback edition. Although I still prefer the US cover, I might end up ordering the UK hardcover edition, too!

    Happy Reading!! : )

  12. Thanks for having a look Maria :) It's interesting how they kept the cover design and how both hardcovers carry design elements through.

It's awesome finding out new things ;)
