What’s the oddest book you’ve ever read? Did you like it? Hate it? Did it make you think?
Without a doubt it has to be Firmin by Sam Savage. It's about a rat called Firmin who grows up in a bookstore in Boston and becomes smarter than other rats because he eats the pages of various novels. I thought it sounded interesting but it turns out it is just plain weird. I didn't enjoy it at all - Firmin watches human porn, finds human women attractive and there are scenes of rat sex. The entire book was kind of disturbing and more than two years after reading it I'm still creeped out. I think I was expecting something similar to the Deptford Mice series by Robin Jarvis (which are great books) and I was really disappointed when I found it to be so different.
Rat sex! Wow, that does sound weird.
