Top Ten Tuesday (10)
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the Broke and the Bookish where a new top ten list is posted each week. This week is: Top Ten Books That Have Been On My Shelf For The Longest But I've Never Read. As you might guess from my blog name I have a massive heap of to-be-read books. These might not actually be the oldest, but these are ones that have been there for so long I can't remember when they appeared.
1. Mistrals Kiss by Laurell K. Hamilton
When I was first getting into urban fantasy I read the Anita Blake series and really enjoyed the earlier books. I also picked up the Merry Gentry series but as the books became more and more sex with less and less plot I stopped reading. When I heard that the six book series had been extended this was relegated to the back of the to-be-read shelf.
2. The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson
I've had this one so long I don't really remember what it is about. I know it has black edged pages and that it was a Christmas gift from my Mum, but beyond that I have no idea. It does have a pretty cover though.
3. Kitty Takes a Holiday by Carrie Vaughn
When I read the first Kitty book I liked it, but wasn't really hooked. I picked up the second out of boredom but really enjoyed it. By the time I picked up a copy of the third, I'd had time to worry about whether it would be closer to the first or the second.
4. The Damned by L.A. Banks
I started this series back in 2006 and I really enjoyed it. I read through the first five books, picked this one up in a bookstore and stopped. I can't even remember why I stopped but I've since collected the rest of the series which is now complete.
5. Monday Mourning by Kathy Reichs
I stumbled across Bones by accident, watched it because it has David Borenaz in and fell in love. I got this in a library book sale only to realise it's not the first Temperance Brennan book. I'm a sucker for reading things in order so it was put on hold.
6. Eragon by Christopher Paolini
I really liked the movie so I picked up a copy of the book. Then I was on goodreads and noticed a lot of people talking about how different the two are, and how most people vastly prefer the book. I'm usually a read-then-watch kind of girl so I'm worried what my reaction to the book will be.
7. Blood is the New Black by Valerie Stivers
This book is why I now refuse to be rushed if I'm picking books as part of a 3-for-2 offer. I couldn't decide what I wanted, saw this and thought 'The Devil Wears Prada plus vampires = cool'. I've never been motivated to pick it up to read though.
8. Sunshine by Robin McKinley
I had this book recommended to me over and over again when I joined Goodreads. I've tried reading the first few pages a couple of times but I've never really gotten into the book. I'll probably read it eventually, but I don't know when. The cinnamon buns sound amazing though!
9. Turbulent Sea by Christine Feehan
This is another middle of the series impulse buy where I now own the whole series. I like Christine Feehan's books but, while my Carpathian and Ghostwalker books are slowly moving off the to-be-read, the Drake Sisters are still sitting there.
10. The Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko
Another book I brought after seeing the movie, but this I'm not worried about because without the movie I wouldn't know the book existed. The movie is brilliant, but I'm guessing I could be missing details as I don't speak Russian.

I finally had to set a limit on how long I keep books on my shelf without reading them!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Top Ten: Top Ten Books That Have Been on My Shelf the Longest But Never Read. I hope you will stop by and sign up for my November Giveaway, too. It's a $25 Amazon gift card!
Thanks for checking out my list :) I really want to read the Bones series too, it's just so massive. I'll get there though. And Eragon, I can't decide whether they'd be for me or not. Hope you get round to at least some of these books one day!
ReplyDeleteI loved The Gargoyle- great book!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been curious about The Gargoyle. It does have a lovely cover, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteEragon has been sitting my shelf for a long time now. Like you I saw the movie but unlike you I didn't think much of it, so I got the book thinking it would be better than the movie. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever know...
ReplyDeleteI never heard of the Kitty books before. I may have to try them. I couldn't get through Eragon.
ReplyDeleteHere's My Post
I've not read any of those
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Top Ten Tuesday post. :)
Eragon has been on my list for a while too. Christopher Paolini is coming to my library in a few weeks and you'd think I'd run out and buy/read his books. No such luck, lol.
ReplyDeleteA few of your title picks are new to me! Eragon is one that I just couldn't make it through.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my list and commenting :)
The Gargoyle is an awesome book! I also love the Temperance Brennan novels, although I've never watched Bones. The first 10 or so are really good.
ReplyDeleteI had the Eragon book back when it came out, and I read three chapters, then just never went back to it. A little later on I decided to sell it. I found the language really bizarre, actually, but I honestly wouldn't mind trying it out again someday.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog today. I LOVE your blog name, btw! I feel like it's motivating.
I liked Eragon the book more than the movie. But it's safe to say that if you liked the movie, you'll probably like the book - though I make no promises.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the lovely comments guys :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck completing your list someday!
