Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Allison Can Read and is a great way to find new book blogs.
Q. Have you ever wanted a villain to win at the end of a story? If so, which one??
While I like rooting for the good guys, there are few things I love more than a good bad guy. That said, I can't remember ever wanting a villain to win. Antiheroes and villains evolve to be heroes on the other hand, those I happily root for - like Devlen and Valek in Maria V. Snyder's Glass and Study trilogies.

“Many of us primarily read one genre of books, with others sprinkled in. If authors stopped writing that genre, what genre would you start reading? Or would you give up reading completely if you couldn’t read that genre anymore?”
I tend to bounce around between different genres so there isn't one that I primarily read....there are four: paranormal romance, urban fantasy, young adult and cozy mysteries. If they all stopped being written, I'd probably switch to a mix of contemporary romance, romantic suspense and crime. But then there's always the option to reread old favourites :)

I'm into YA... anything YA is good except horror or crimes... Some adult fiction are ok for me too if they vary to paranormal, christian, fantasy, historical or contemporary. =) happy friday hops!

Valek is a great choice! Definitely villainous at first, but I love the way he evolves.

ReplyDeletehmmm...haven't read Maria V. Snyder--but I've heard good things about her books! As for me, I've been reading A Game of Thrones, and I can't help but root for Tyrion!--It's not his fault he was born a Lannister!

Hi, new follower! I'm a huge fan of villain/antihero redemption stories. Even when they aren't redeemed all the way. I guess I just like bad boys.

I'm a rooter for the good guys too. I like HEAs too much. But, I do love a redeemed gray villain, like Snape, and I'll root for them to the end.
ReplyDeleteI have a serious literary crush on Valek. I have those books as keepers so I can visit him often. :)

Hiya. New follower and thank you for reminding me that I still need to read Maria V. Snyder. I've heard wonderful things about her books.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by over at Drying Ink - I haven't heard of the series you mention at all, but I'm also rather fond of antiheroes, which Harry Dresden verges on at times. The Dresden Files are one of my favourite series. I'm following back!.
ReplyDeleteI'd never quit reading. Or, at least, I hope I wouldn't. Other passions have come and gone, but I have never stopped reading.

Hopping on through. I'm noticing a trending answer as to villains winning the conflict. The more I read everyone's answers the more I want to write a book where the villain wins. I don't know, I just think it would be a good twist.
