Shelf Candy Saturday (16)

Shelf Candy Saturday is an awesome weekly meme hosted by Five Alarm Book Reviews where each Saturday bloggers defy the saying "never judge a book by its cover" and showcase one that really catches their eye. Covers play a huge role in the books I choose so it's great to have the opportunity to showcase the pretties :)

My shelf candy for this week is Shadows on the Moon by Zoƫ Marriott.

On my fourteenth birthday when the sakura was in full bloom, the men came to kill us. We saw them come, Aimi and me. We were excited, because we did not know how to be frightened. We had never seen soldiers before.

Suzume is a shadow weaver.
She can be anyone she wants.
Except herself.

Only one man sees through her illusions.
Only one man loves the girl within.
And he will not give her up.
Not even to a prince.

This has to be hands down one of the most gorgeous books on my shelf. It's just sooo pretty! I love the cherry blossoms bordering the photo and they just emphasize the oriental setting really well (the book is set in a fictional country called the Moonlit land).

The only downside is while the cover image is pretty, the book is outstanding in real life. The text is shiny and looks even cooler when you move the book and catch the light. The other thing you can't see from the front cover image is that the face continues on the back cover, as do the cherry blossoms.

The trailer also shows how awesome this book is:

So what's your shelf candy this week?

  1. I love books where the character's face continues on the other side! :) Too bad it doesn't come through in this digital version!

  2. Like Vicky, I love books where the face continues to the back. Delirium is one of the most impressive and is still on my list to feature on Shelf Candy. The cover for Shadows of the Moon is a great choice. I personally am tiring of overlays, but this one is unique. It seems to be a tree, maybe cherry blossoms, which is a nice change. Also, I am always a sucker for black and red together, so I love the font in contrast to the model's hair.
PS. I see that you are reading a cozy mystery that I have not read. I am a big fan of cozies, so I am looking forward to what you think of it.

    1. I agree that so many covers seem to use overlays these days, and most don't have anything to do with the plot. At least cherry blossoms sit with an Oriental setting. Black and red is always an awesome combo :)

  3. Like the people above I love it too. They just tell you because of the mystery. I have heard of this book before, but not a lot. I think I should have though. It looks fatastic!

    Great Shelf Candy

  6. Oh WOW. I totally agree! This is a truly GORGEOUS cover!! And it goes all the way around the book? Love stuff like that!! I think I'll....SQUEEEEE!!! Yes, this one is going right into my TBR -- Goodreads and Shalfari!! And the trailer just ROCKS. And the plot sounds absolutely WONDERFUL. And I know I'm sounding like a crazy teenage girl right now, but I'm not -- a teenager, that is. Lol. Thank you so much for sharing this!!! : )

    1. Thanks Maria - it has to be one of the most gorgeous books I own, possibly even the most! Plus whoever designed that trailer deserves a medal. You sound exactly like me when I first saw the book and then when I was given it for my birthday :)
